Winter is Coming!
This week, I spent time organizing the winter supplies such as hats, gloves, and scarves. There were at least 5 boxes filled with different winter clothes. I rearranged it for quicker access and resupplying and separated them into different boxes for gloves, hats, and scarves. This is the first time I've seen a big surplus of a certain item because we had so many scarves. While I was doing this, I was thinking about how we have so much of these items and a low demand, and I was wondering if there would be a place that these items would be more beneficial, such as at a homeless shelter. I know these are very much in demand for the homeless population, and while it is beneficial to offer these at a low price at our store, it could be more helpful to donate at least some of our supply to shelters. We donate a lot to the Frederick Rescue Mission, so I think it would be very helpful if we were able to donate some of our hats, gloves, and scarves to them. Organizing some sort of winter supply drive or even just doing it within the store could help more than just the community of Emmitsburg. My first picture is of the boxes after I had organized them, and you can see a different box on top that still has to be gone through and sorted.
My other picture this week is of a pair of earrings that I made. Resourcefulness is a large part of the Seton Center so we try our best to sell most of what is donated to us or create things out of old materials that could be sold. You can see the earring on the right is what I started with, and that is a piece that we all determined would likely not sell on its own at the store. However, I was able to alter them and make a smaller pair of earrings that are more appealing and more likely to sell, which you can see on the left. One of my favorite parts about the Seton Store is having creative freedom and trust to create jewelry and sell it. I love seeing things that we made on the floor and selling. It makes me feel like I not only am making an impact on the community, but also sharing my designs and ideas with the town.

Resourcefulness is a great trait to have. Your commentary on the surplus of gloves, scarves, and hats and potentially donating them to the Frederick Rescue Mission is insightful. Nonprofits working together has a greater impact on the community as a whole. Since you serve different populations, the plethora of winter items would better help people who are homeless. This creativity nicely connects to you making new earrings out of old ones.
